Boomerang Manufacturers: Overview and Recommendations
Posted by Pete on 28th Sep 2016
When asked by a customer on eBay to recommend some boomerangs (see previous blog post) I actually ran out of space to give a more complete answer! To complete my answer I would like to give an overview of the various boomerang manufacturers:
Blue Star Rangs are excellent competition standard sports items, but sadly the maker passed away and so these are no longer made. If you see any on sale, they are well worth adding to the collection of any serious thrower.
Boomerang Fan make lovely boomerangs suitable for all skill levels, and I have been impressed with the performance of the models I have tried. However, they recently revamped their range, sadly discontinuing some of what I considered to be their best models. For this reason I have not restocked their range recently, but maybe next year...
Boomerang Hunter also make a good range of high quality well made wooden boomerangs, but as these are a recent addition to my shop and I do not throw boomerangs as often now, I have not tried very many. One I remember liking was the Windcraft model. I have had good feedback from customers about this range.
Boomerarte Boomerangs look lovely but I think perhaps these appeal more to those customers wanting an attractive boomerang, or perhaps a nice gift. I have not tried any of this range yet so cannot comment on performance.
Davro Boomerangs are discussed in the previous blog entry. They have been out of production for some time now and our stocks are already running low.
Free Flyght Boomerangs are less well known in Europe, being made in Brazil. I rate these quite highly; they make a wonderful wide range of models for all skill levels. Being made from plastic these are tough and easily tuned, and competitively priced. I do recommend these for new or intermediate throwers, but cannot fairly recommend any particular models, not having tried them all. I only have a limited stock left, but do hope to restock these in the future.
Glover Boomerangs are mostly aimed at more serious throwers. Of those I have in stock at the time of writing, none are suitable for beginners.
Leggacy Boomerangs are almost sold out. I hope to restock in the future.
LMI and Fox Boomerangs are also almost sold out at the time of writing. I definitely want to restock this range if possible.
Master Designs Boomerangs are mostly aimed at more serious throwers. They are very nicely made wooden sports boomerangs.
Real Boomerangs are really great! And it is nice to sell some boomerangs that are actually hand made in Australia. This was the only range that I chose to restock this year, which says a lot about my opinion of them. I am a fan of tri blade boomerangs, and can recommend all the tri blade boomerangs made by Real Boomerangs. The Real Boomerangs Velocity is a personal favourite of mine, being a really fun to throw, easily tuned, robust, light ‘fast catch’ model. Easy to catch too, though the speed of its flight will test your reflexes! It has a lovely low circular flight, best in very low wind (though you can add a weight such as an elastic band wrapped around the centre if the wind picks up).
Voodoo boomerangs are nicely made wooden boomerangs but my stocks are low.
Wallaby Boomerangs are made in France from natural materials. They cater for all abilities. These are all quite small in size. Personally I find the few that I tried (and added to my collection) quite challenging to use, so would not recommend them for beginners.
Wicked Boomerangs (formerly known as Rangs Magic) make a range of plastic boomerangs. The Outdoor model is another personal favourite of mine. Just because it is cheap, doesn’t mean that it is not a whole lot of fun. Great for the park, easily tuned, recommended for beginners. Note the Wicked Night Booma is identical in design to the Wicked Outdoor Booma, but has the addition of a chemical glow stick that can be put in the centre and uses a glow in the dark plastic for the actual boomerang. With the Outdoor Booma do be careful with younger throwers, these do have enough weight and speed to injure.
